Filbert Bonsai Tree

Posted in Outdoor Trees

Now here is a unique bonsai tree that is actually a small hazelnut tree.

I like this filbert bonsai tree because of the thick growth it produces in the spring and summer. Hazelnuts always remind me of christmas time so I have mine in the house around this special season as an extra ornament and decoration.

The European Filbert or Hazelnut is generally grown for its tasty nuts. In late winter to early spring, 2″-3″ long, yellowish catkins appear, dangling like ornaments from the branches. They are followed by broad, fuzzy, droopy leaves that turn yellow before they drop in the fall. In spring, summer and autumn it has leaves so dense it hides the limbs.
