Chinese Elm Bonsai Trees
The Chinese elm tree is an easy to care for and is becoming a popular tree for beginers
The Chinese elm tree is a unique looking, but stunning oramental tree. It is so easy to take care of and the characteristics of this elm make it one, that many people are choosing.
The common term used for an elm tree is ulmus parvifolia. It has small evergreen leaves that stay on the tree all year round. They are a very hardy tree with excellent branching characteristics. They have a twisted trunk and exposed roots to give the look of age.
An interesting feature is that it has small tightly arranged leaves making it a good candidate for bonsai. The bark of the Chinese elm also varies from smooth to rough with unique and interesting textures. Bonsai that have a smoother bark need more care than rough bark trees and should be kept in mind when choosing a bonsai tree for beginners.
These bonsai trees do well in full sunlight to shade making it ideal for beginners who need more flexibility with their garden plant placements. During the winter the tree should be sheltered from the elements but allowed to go dormant.
For those that like the looks but don’t want to grow one themselves
