Growing and caring for a money bonsai tree

The Pachira Aquatica (money plant tree) is a very hardy plant that can withstand low light conditions and infrequent watering. The money tree can be pruned by cutting off the stems, new growth will appear at the cut over time.

You should water your money tree whenever the soil looks dry. Depending of course on the local climate conditions. If you live in a very dry climate this could be once a week compared to once a month in humid climates. The best way to to judge this is by looking at the trunk and stems. Wrinkles mean more frequent watering and spongy to the touch means less watering.

The most common factors for yellowing money tree leaves are too much sunlight or watering and/or to many temperature swings throughout the day normally air conditioning causes this. It is best to keep the plant away from sunlight and in a neutral location as to temperature. Avoid placing the plant next to windows and air vents.

If using a water/moisture meter, the reading should be kept between 1-3. Simply cut the unwanted leaves off so that new ones can grow and replace. Do not leave yellowing leaves on until they turn brown it can spread decay.
