The plant term or proper name is  "Juniper Procumbens Nana." They are very hardy, long-lived, and tolerate many adverse conditions. The juniper shown here is trained in the traditional Japanese style.

The advantage to using a juniper for a bonsai tree is because of the degree of its hardiness, this tree can remain indoors in a room that doesn't get too hot or outdoors permanently. If outdoors in the winter months it should not be subject to very cold freezing winds.

One of the most important aspects of growing Juniper bonsai trees outdoors is that the root ball, along with newly wired or trained karate kid tree should be carefully protected from frost. If you are wanting to grow it indoors only do so for a few months at a time and not in a room that gets too warm.
